Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, study, and
treatment of mental
disorders. These include various abnormalities related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions.

offering various courses in this area. But Central Institute of
Psychiatry is one of the premier training centers in India for mental health
professionals. The institute is directly governed by the Government of India. It is
situated in Kanke, Ranchi in Jharkhand state of India. The
institute which has many firsts to its credit is a premier centre for mental
health in the country. First Occupational
therapy department, ECT (Electro Convolution Therapy), Psychiatry and Neuro

The institute is affiliated to Ranchi University. Admission to the above said courses is
through open advertisement in all the leading news papers. The candidates are
selected for the admission by a selection committee constituted by the Director
General of Health Services, New Delhi.
Usually the advertisement for admission will be appearing in
October – November month. All India Entrance will be conducted in third Sunday
of February and admission will be on March.
The session will commence on first may.
