BECOME AN ENGINEER WITHOUT GOING TO AN ENGINEERING COLLEGE



Do you want to become an Engineer without going to an Engineering College?  There is a way. That's nothing but AMIE. Complete form is Associate Member of Institutions of Engineers. The AMIE will be awarded by the Kolkata based professional statutory body called Engineers India. You will get the title as chartered engineer by this Examination.  This degree can use as an equivalent to BE/B.Tech for almost all the posts in UPSC and State PSCs except teaching posts.  One can go for higher studies like M.Tech, MBA  or any other PG for Engineering graduates using this degree.

There are two types of programs: Technician Membership and Senior Technician Membership.

Technician Membership:  Plus two with minimum 45% marks is the basic qualification. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics require 45% marks. English is a mandatory subject in the qualified examinations. Age limit is minimum 18 years.  VHSC,  BSc  with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics  of National Open School in plus two level is also an eligible qualification for this course.

Senior Technician Membership:  Engineering Diploma or AMIE Technician membership is the eligible qualification for this. Minimum age is 18 years.

Program Schedule

This program is scheduled with Section A, Section B, Project and Laboratory work.  This program is charted. Exams are conducted twice in a year. Summer Test in June and Winters' Test in December. Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi are the examination centers. Section A Examination is conducted separately for diploma stream and non diploma stream. The non diploma stream is for technical membership. It is an exam with 100 marks for each subject. The duration of the exam is 3 hours. Four topics can be written in a term.

Section B exam is related to the related to optional subjects.  One can opt the branches like Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Electronics & Communication, Materials and Metallurgy, Mining, Production and Textile.

Each branch in Section B will have 9 subjects. Of these six are mandatory subjects and 3 are optional. It is an exam with 100 marks for each subject. The duration of the exam is 3 also hours. Four topics can be written in a term. At least C grade (50% marks) is required for minimum pass.  For getting the permission of practical examination one has to be get minimum C grade for at least 5 subjects in section B. Maximum mark is 100 for this also. For getting B grade minimum (60 - 65) mark is required. Project work is the part of the course. After completion of these processes once will become the corporate member of the Institution of Engineers.

One can directly register for this course complete the same without going to prescribed institutions. But some private institutes are conducting the coaching for this course.
