SPORTS EDUCATION IS NOT SIMPLY A GAME

Physical Education has been emerging as a subject of study on combining with the other branches of science.  There are a lot of subjects in connection with sports such as bio mechanics, exercise physiology, sports psychology, sports sociology; sports biochemistry, sports medicine, sports management, sports history etc. are available for specializations. The slogan of sports literacy has been raised internationally. In India, the Central Advisory Board on Education and Sports has been launching the initiative to achieve this goal. As part of this, CBSC has already begun a move to include the sports education in their curriculum. Steps have been initiated in Kerala too. So there is no doubt that this would be a better career in future.

Courses and Institutions

Those who have completed plus two in any stream can opt the four year degree course Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE).  After that they can join the two year master degree course MPE (Master of Physical Education) if their age is below 25 years.  The qualification for one-year M.Phil degree is MPE with 55 percentage mark. Those with undergraduate or diploma in sports studies can join a one year PG Diploma in Health & Fitness Management course. Degree in any discipline is the necessary qualification for joining Master Degree in Sports Coaching. There are PG Diploma and various Certificate Courses in Sports Medicine. Those who have completed their medical undergraduate and internship may join the PG Diploma in Sports Medicine. We can take diploma in almost all sports items. There are also opportunities for taking PhD in Sports Education and Sports Science.

Those who have completed plus two in   Physics, Chemistry and Biology can apply for the Sports and Exercise course offered by Sri Ramachandra University Chennai. The duration of this course is four years, including one year's internship.
